Gabriel was seized from a horrendous hoarding case, along with 58 other animals and was brought to our shelter for immediate rescue and care. He had be been kept barricaded inside a makeshift cage alone for years. So severely neglected, he was unrecognizable as a dog and he had to be sedated in order to remove all his severely matted hair and filth just to see who was underneath. His grooming and bathing may have been the first human touch he had felt in years, perhaps ever. As he came out of sedation, cradled in the arms of our staff member, everyone agreed that he looked like an angel. And that is how Gabriel got his name. Severely emaciated and extremely fearful, it was a long road not only to get him healthy but also to get him to trust people again. His foster mother fell in love and decided to adopt him. The other pets in Gabriel’s foster home taught him to love and how to trust people again. Today, fully recovered, he is in a loving forever home where he welcomes new foster animals and serves as a comfort for them as they discover love for the first time. Just like he did.
